What is Parkinson’s Disease?

The progressive neurological condition “paralysis agitans” is usually referred to simply as Parkinson’s, after James Parkinson, who was the first to describe what he called “the shaking palsy”. It is a disease of the brain which also manifests itself in the body, and is caused by the lack of a chemical called dopamine as a result of the death of nerve cells in the brain.
